Biographical Note

Born in England in the early fifties, the son of a watercolorist, I initially chose a path of science, immersing myself in the natural world as a biologist, zoologist, and eventually a medical research scientist—though along the way, art was a constant companion, chiefly in the form of photography.  During my college years, I found time to specialize in photojournalism and commercial photography.  My career path, however, was distinctly in biomedical research and business.  For the 25 years following university, I only used a camera recreationally.

Soon after I reached forty, I returned to art, taking numerous classes in drawing and painting at the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts, mastering techniques in figurative art and portraiture using OILS, PASTELS, and a variety of drawing materials.  Much of my painting during those years borrowed from all that I knew about photography.  As I branched out and explored more impressionistic styles and techniques, I returned to PHOTOGRAPHY as a medium for expression and as a source of inspiration for painting and digital imagery.  I applied my aptitude for computers and technology to my artistic endeavors, using the computer as an aid and stimulus for painting and creating works in the exciting, new, hybrid genre of DIGITAL PAINTING.

In 2005, I retired from a career in business development and administration in order to pursue my art full time.  Now living as an artist and commercial photographer in Santa Fe, New Mexico, I have added PRINTMAKING to my repertory of fine art, and I have established a freelance COMMERCIAL photography business concentrating on architectural, product (artwork), event, and portraiture commissions.
Throughout it all, my innate inquisitiveness about the wonders of living things and my exploration of the interplay of life, light, and perception now emerge and combine in my new-found vocation in the visual arts.
